STONINGTON - Northumberland County 911 has updated its earlier information and now says Route 61 will be closed near here until at least 5 p.m. because of work to repair downed power lines.
Earlier predictions were until at least 1 p.m., but that was updated shortly before noon.
High winds that are gusting to 30 and 40 mph are blamed for knocking down a large tree and utility pole, which fell across Route 61 at approximately 7 a.m. Thursday near Stonington Fire Company.
A detour is in place at Captain Bloom and Anthracite roads in Shamokin Township. The 911 center said the stretch of highway effected is from the Stonington State Police barracks to Northumberland Memorial Park Cemetery.
