Mount Carmel and Kulpmont have both enacted snow emergencies in anticipation of a major storm forecast for Sunday into Monday.

Kulpmont Mayor Bernard P. Novakoski said Friday a snow emergency will go into effect at 3 p.m. Sunday. Parking is prohibited on Chestnut Street from that time until the snow stops and PennDOT has plowed the snow to the curb. Anyone violating the snow emergency will be ticketed; vehicles may be towed at owners' expense.

In Mount Carmel, Mayor Philip Cimino said the snow emergency will be in effect at midnight Sunday into Monday. Parking is prohibited on Third from Birth to Market, Avenue from Poplar to Market, Market from Avenue to Fifth and Fifth from Market to Pine until the storm ends so PennDOT can plow to the curb.

Any vehicles not moved will be subject to ticketing and towing. Cimino also reminds residents not to pile snow near fire hydrants, and, if possible, to clear around them.
