Two confirmed dead in fiery crash near Snydertown
RUSH TOWNSHIP — Two people are confirmed dead following a one-vehicle rollover on Rushtown Road at approximately 11 a.m. today.
Trooper Brian Ronk of Stonington State Police barracks and Elysburg Fire Department Chief Dennis Kroh both said two individuals who were trapped inside an older model pickup truck that was on fire were killed.
No further information about the victims is being released until their next of kin are notified, Ronk said.
They were traveling east in a wooded area on the road, uphill toward Rushtown Road, when the driver lost control and the truck struck a tree. It rolled and came to rest upside down on the opposite side of the road, next to an embankment, police said.
The fire was fully involved when emergency personnel arrived, and it took approximately five minutes to knock it down, Kroh said.
The area of the crash is north of Snydertown Road, about five miles west of Elysburg.
More details will be posted as they become available.
