SELINSGROVE - Mount Carmel's Ali Varano was one of the top scorers at Saturday's District 4 Class AA girls track and field championships, but also one of the most frustrated.

Varano placed in four events at Susquehanna University, but won't be going to the state championships for the second straight year.

Varano placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.67 seconds, but missed qualifying in the event by just .03 seconds.

She also placed fourth in the 400, sixth in the 200 and eighth in the long jump, for 15 of her team's 23 points.

No Mount Carmel or Southern girls qualified for the state meet. Southern's top finisher was Bailey Bzdak, who was fourth in the long jump.

Other placewinners included, by place:

Sixth - Mount Carmel's Amber Kogut, discus; and Southern's Teanna Shutt, pole vault.

Seventh - Southern's Gabrielle Scherer, 100 hurdles; Miranda Long, javelin; and Julia Mudrock, pole vault.

Eighth - Southern's Shutt, 3200; and Mount Carmel's 1600-meter relay team.
