Haven named EC Class A champion

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Without even playing a championship game, Schuylkill Haven has been awarded the Eastern Conference Class A title.

The Hurricanes, who defeated Bucktail in a semifinal last week, were slated to play Northwest in this week's championship game. Northwest, however, had to forfeit its 42-21 semifinal victory over Muncy because a player who was ejected in a Week 10 game against Montrose played against Muncy. PIAA rules state that if a player is ejected from competition he/she is ineligible for the next game.

Northwest was not originally in the Eastern Conference playoffs but received the wild-card berth after Sayre declined its bid. Muncy entered the tournament as the top seed.

Muncy was informed of the situation, but was not able to play because the coaching staff collected equipment already and had it ready to be sent out to be reconditioned.
