CATAWISSA R.R. - Loyalsock made all seven of its 3-point shots in the first half, building a 37-20 lead, then had to withstand a furious comeback to down Southern Columbia 52-48 in a key Heartland Athletic Conference Division II boys basketball game Wednesday.

The loss dropped Southern (11-4 overall) into a three-way tie with the Lancers and Lewisburg for the division lead. All three teams have 8-2 records.

A.J. Fry topped the Lancers with 12 points, and Kyle Datres had nine.

Keith Day led the Tigers with 14 points. Brad Fegley added 12 and Casey Savitski 11.

JERSEY SHORE - The Indians, who fell to 10-8 with the defeat, need one victory in their final four games to clinch a District 4 Class AAA playoff berth.

Kieran Kelley and Jarrod Shurock led the Shamokin attack with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Mike Spade helped out with nine.
