Southern Columbia is hosting a distance-only track event today at Southern to allow cross country runners to run either a 5000 meter run, a 3200 meter run, or for middle school students, a 3000 meter run. It will be held on the SCA track which is a departure from the hills, grass, gravel and mud of cross country. The objective of the event is to give runners a chance to better their times from last spring at a time when they are not fighting heat, and are most likely in great shape. It will also give road racers an opportunity to try something they do not normally do, run on a great surface without hills. Race registration will begin at 8 am with the following event schedule. Entry fee is $15 for all races, payable to: Southern Columbia Track and Cross Country Boosters Club. Schedule: 9:30 - 5000 meter run - This may be broken down into a female race at 9:30 and a male race at 10:15 if necessary. 11 a.m. - 3200 meter run - Girls varsity. High school runners only. 11:30 a.m. - 3200 meter run - Boys varsity. High school runners only. Noon - 3000 meter run - Middle school boys and girls.
