CATAWISSA R.R. - The 2s were lined up in the bottom of the eighth inning of Southern Columbia's non-league matchup with Loyalsock Township Monday afternoon.

And most of them didn't favor the Tigers.

They trailed by two.

There were two outs.

And there was a 2-2 count on Southern's No. 8 hitter, Kim Reigle.

Fortunately, there were two runners on base.

That's when Reigle delivered a big 3.

Loyalsock pitcher Sara O'Dell threw a belt-high pitch down the middle of the plate that Reigle, a junior who had never before hit a home run, proceeded to

knock over the head of Lancers' center fielder Heidi Womeldorf and over the fence for a game-ending, game-winning 3-run walkoff home run that kept Southern's unbeaten season intact at 9-0 with an 8-7 victory.

Was Reigle feeling pressure when she stepped to the plate with two runners on, two outs and the game on the line?

"Slightly," Reigle said after the game.

How about when the count reached two balls, two strikes?

"Oh my gosh, I knew I had to hit it," she said.

What about after she made solid contact and saw the ball soaring toward deep center field?

"As soon as everybody started cheering, I thought, 'Oh my gosh, I did it'" Reigle said.

It was the second home run of the game for the Tigers. Third baseman Kayla Lavella laced a 2-run shot out of the park in the bottom of the first, giving the Tigers a 2-1 edge after the Lancers put one on the board in the top of the first.

The Tigers then fell behind 4-2 when they committed four errors in a disastrous third inning that led to a 4-2 Loyalsock lead. Another Loyalsock run in the top of the fifth made it 5-2 and had Southern on the ropes before they got back in it with three runs in the bottom of the fifth that ultimately pushed the game into extra innings.

In that rally, all three runs were scored with two outs. Mallory Tomaschik drove home the first two when she lined a double over the head of Womeldorf in center field, plating Kirstin Blass and Mary McGinley, who both singled. Tomaschik then scored when Lavella, who was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, singled to center.

"I figured once we had it tied up, we'd go ahead sure as heck," Southern coach Al Cihocki said, "but we didn't get it done."

Instead, it was Loyalsock that went ahead. In the top of the eighth, Casey Ulmer scored Amanda Daneker with a double to left-center, then Womeldorf delivered a two-out double to right-center that knocked Ulmer home, giving the Lancers the 7-5 lead that was eventually erased by Reigle's game-winning blast.
