Defending District 4 champion Mount Carmel Area has landed the No. 1 seed for the district's 2013 Class AA girls basketball tournament.

The Red Tornadoes (19-3) will open tournament action with a date and time still to be determined against the winner of an opening round matchup between No. 8 Warrior Run and No. 9 Wellsboro. That game will be played Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Montoursville.

In all, seven area teams qualified for the District 4 postseason, including four girls teams and three boys teams.

In Class A girls, Lourdes will open Thursday at 6 p.m. at Montoursville against Galeton. Lourdes (17-5) is the No. 3 seed. Galeton (14-8) is the No. 6.

In Class AA girls, in addition to the top-seeded Tornadoes, Southern Columbia (17-5) earned the No. 3 seed and will meet No. 6 Montoursville (16-6) Friday at 6 p.m. at Danville.

In Class AAA girls, No. 4 Shamokin Area (12-10) will meet No. 5 Milton (12-10) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Danville.

On the boys side, in Class A, No. 3 seed Lourdes (17-5) tangles with No. 6 Sayre (13-9) in the second game of a doubleheader with the Lourdes girls. Starting time is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Montoursville.

In Class AA, No. 7 Mount Carmel Area (13-9) meets No. 10 Williamson (12-10) Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Williamsport High School.

No. 8 Line Mountain (13-9) meets No. 9 Canton (13-9) Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Montoursville.
