The return of the hard-hitting action of the Pennsylvania Championship Wrestling Alliance to Mount Carmel next weekend, the death last weekend of former wrestling star Luna Vachon and the TNA pay per view this weekend are the hot topics this week.

Next Saturday, with a special 5 p.m. start, PCWA returns to Ryan's Hall at 251 South Hickory Street with a big show featuring a main event between one of the promotion's most popular wrestlers, Aaron Arbo, and former WWE and ECW star Stevie Richards.

Richards is currently working for TNA and picked up a pinfall victory over the Monster Abyss this past Thursday night on Impact. He is also one of the bigger influences of Arbo's pro career and this should be a special encounter for area pro wrestling fans. The early start time for the card can also get you home in time for the Penn State-Alabama football game scheduled for later that evening.

The PCWA United States Championship will be on the line with champ Jamie Magnum defending in a three-way against Cody Adams and the talented Unbreakable Andy Harner. Autumn Breeze, G.I. Bear, Cole Callaway and the Ghostbusters are also slated for action. Tickets are a very affordable $10 in advance from B and B Service on Market St. or by calling Greg at 570-933-1913. They are available at the door on the night of the event for $13.

Luna Vachon, a member of the famous Canadian Vachon wrestling family, was found dead last Friday morning at her mother's home in Florida. She had been staying there after a fire destroyed her own home several weeks ago. The daughter of Paul the Butcher Vachon and niece of Mad Dog and Vivian Vachon, Gertrude Luna Vachon was a unique wrestling attraction for many years for a number of promotions.

She had a successful pro career in her own right after being particularly inspired by her aunt's passion and success in the mat world. Working for the WWE for a number of years, including time spent with George Steele as one of the Oddities back in the mid-90s, the company website noted her passing last Friday at the age of 48.

Mick Foley had recently mentioned on his blog that her house fire had left her without much of anything, including the loss of wrestling memorabilia related to her career and he urged anyone who had such items to consider sending some to her. Vachon had been working in recent years as a tow truck driver for a repo business and was reported to be battling mental health issues at times. Apparently, she declined an invitation to be part of the recent TNA Hardcore ppv.

TNA will present its No Surrender ppv tonight with the semifinals of the heavyweight championship tournament that include Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Hardy, and the Pope vs. Mr. Anderson. The Motor City Machine Guns defend the tag titles against London Brawling. Sting and Kevin Nash team up against Jeff Jarrett and Samoa Joe. A.J. Styles goes after Tommy Dreamer in an I Quit match and Sabu challenges Douglas Williams for the X-division crown.

Abyss tangles with Rhino in a Falls Count Anywhere contest and Madison Rayne does battle with Velvet Sky. Seems like they might add something to the show at the last minute, as there are no announced roles for folks like Foley, Hogan or Flair. Jeff Jarrett recently married Kurt Angle's ex-wife Karen, according to wrestling observer/figure4online.com.

George the Animal Steele was slated to appear for an autograph signing at the Williamsport Crosscutters minor league baseball game in Williamsport on Friday evening. He did the same gig at the Harrisburg Senators game a couple of years ago and gave us a great interview after drawing an impressive crowd, so it looks like he is still going strong. Jim Ross reported in his blog this week that Sgt. Slaughter was hospitalized with a blood irregularity after working with Ross on a WWE Classics roundtable program. Hope he is on the road to a quick recovery, as he also provided us with a great interview while wrestling at Shamokin High School back in the 1990s.

(Shamokin's Bill Gilger "arranges" the interview each week with The Insider)
