North Schuylkill and Minersville engaged May 13 in a dramatic Schuylkill League semifinal, the Spartans pulling out a 10-9 victory in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Nine days later, the two squads will hook up again for an encore.

The Miners (13-8) will visit North Schuylkill (16-6) in a District 11 Class AA quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The matchup is one of four quarterfinal games involving Schuylkill League teams.

"It was a great game the other day," North Schuylkill coach Nick Brayford said. "Del Hauck does a great job with them, and I anticipate a great game again. They'll be ready to play, so will we. It will be another great game."

Ten Schuylkill League teams qualified for the District 11 Baseball Tournament, which begins today with first-round contests in Class AAAA.

Schuylkill League champion Tamaqua (15-7) and Division II winner Williams Valley (17-4) earned top seeds in their respective classes and will have byes into Friday's semifinals. The Blue Raiders are the top seed in the six-team Class AAA field, while the Vikings are the No. 1 seed in the six-team Class A field.

In Class AA, North Schuylkill is the No. 2 seed, while Minersville is No. 7. Defending Class AA champion and PIAA Class AA runner-up Pine Grove (12-8) is seeded fifth and travels to No. 4 Catasauqua for a 4:30 p.m. Wednesday contest.

The Class AA semifinals will be Friday at Limeport. The North Schuylkill-Minersville winner will face the Notre Dame-Green Pond-Pen Argyl winner at 4:30 p.m.


Just five teams made the Class AA field and two are from the Schuylkill League.

No. 5 North Schuylkill (11-9) will travel to No. 4 Notre Dame-Green Pond (14-6) for a quarterfinal at 4 p.m. Thursday.
