Millersburg rallies by Eagles
MANDATA - For six minutes, Line Mountain looked like last season's team.
The Eagles jumped out to a 19-0 lead over Millersburg, forcing eight turnovers along the way, and played like anything but the team with a 4-10 record this year.
Then the Eagles crashed hard. Millersburg went on a 55-28 run to win 55-47 and all but sink the Eagles' season Thursday.
Line Mountain scored on nine of its first 10 possessions on the way to its big lead. Madison Lagerman scored five of her seven points in that span and Sarah Lahr added seven more.
But somewhere between the first and second quarters, the Eagles game plan changed and they settled for quick first shots.
Millersburg was patient and Line Mountain looked like a team which was down 19 at one point and not in the lead.
The Eagles made just one of 22 shots in the second quarter and Millersburg climbed back to 25-20 before Indians' head coach Jill Steffen was whistled for a technical with four seconds remaining. Line Mountain made two of its next four free throws to go in up seven.
Millersburg wasted no time in finishing the rally and taking its first lead with 4:52 left in the third quarter when Tori Fulkroad sank a 3-pointer.
Sophomore Colleen Troutman tied the game with a layup before Fulkroad, who finished with 17 points, connected for another 3-pointer and the Eagles never had even a piece of the lead from there on out.
Lahr led the Eagles with 13, while Troutman added 12.
One more loss will disqualify the Eagles from District 4 postseason contention.
NOTES: Thursday's game was just over a year since Kasey Long and Mikhail Whitcomb each topped the 1,000-point plateau in the same game. ...The most intense moment of the night came in the Eagles' 39-35 junior varsity overtime loss. Needing to sink both free throws with no time left to tie the game in regulation, Sherylyn Wilkinson made both shots like she was out in the driveway.
