MOUNT CARMEL - Ali Varano's third goal, with 4:47 left in the second overtime, gave Mount Carmel a 3-2 girls soccer win over Jersey Shore Thursday, giving the Red Tornadoes (9-4) a spot in the upcoming district playoffs.

Varano gave Mount Carmel a 1-0 halftime lead but goals by Harley Lorson and Olivia Edler in the second half put the Bulldogs ahead 2-1. But Varano also scored just 10 seconds after Edler's goal to tie the game.

Mount Carmel travels to Loyalsock on Tuesday.

Girls soccer Warrior Run 3 Shamokin 0

TURBOTVILLE - Olivia George scored two goals to lead Warrior Run over the Indians in a Heartland Athletic Conference Division II game.

Brianna Martin had 19 saves for the Indians (5-7), who were hampered by injuries and played with only 11 players and 10 in the second half.

Shamokin hosts Jersey Shore on Tuesday.

Golf Fiamoncini advances

EAGLES MERE - Lourdes Regional's Bryce Fiamoncini advanced to the second round of the District 4-AA tournament at Eagles Mere Country Club, shooting an 86 to place 11th in the first round.

A total of 24 golfers advanced to Saturday's second round. Brandon Ciocco of Southern Columbia just missed the cut by a stroke, shooting 93.

Danville's Austin Renz is the leader at 75, six strokes ahead of Lewisburg's Ben Apple. Danville won the team title with an aggregate score of 336, followed by Wellsboro (360).

Shikellamy's C.J. Tyler and Selinsgrove's Justin Geedey are tied for the AAA lead with 76 and Selinsgrove won the team title with 347.

Katie Behnert of Milton shot 92 to lead the AA girls and Loyalsock won the team title with a score of 458. Shikellamy's Raven Fatool shot 89 for the AAA lead.

Boys soccer Halifax 3 Line Mtn. 1

MANDATA - Alex McMullen scored two goals to lead Halifax over the Eagles, who lost to the same team 13-0 two weeks earler.

Vaughn Witmer scored his first varsity goal for the Eagles and Ethan Marquette-Hulsizer had 30 saves in goal.
