Local runners complete Goofy Challenge in Fla.
ORLANDO, Fla. - A Shamokin Township woman, inspired to take up running at the Shamokin Area Relay for Life two years ago, recently completed Disney's Goofy Challenge, a 13.1-mile run on Saturday, followed by a full 26.2-mile marathon on Sunday at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Stacy Faust, whose mother-in-law died of cancer and whose brother is a two-time cancer survivor, started running in April 2011 and ran seven miles at the Shamokin Area Relay for Life that year. Since then she has taken up running seriously, both on a treadmill and outdoors.
She raised money for the American Cancer Society with her runs in Florida, running with names of cancer victims on her shirt. She raised a total of $3,700 the past two years.
She is presently accepting contributions for this year's Relay For Life. Checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society but can be mailed to her at 545 Larch Rd., Sunbury, Pa., 17801.
Also running in the event were David Shulski, of Paxinos; and Helen Balthaser, of Shamokin.
