JAMAICA, N.Y. - Jay Wharton, who competes for the War$ic mixed martial arts fight team from Shamokin, recently took first place in his weight class in a pro rules tournament, fighting in the 153 pounds and under bracket.

Wharton won his first bout by submission in 28 seconds, took a forfeit in the semifinals, and beat his opponent in the finals by heel hook submission verbal tapout in 2 minutes, 46 seconds.

Wharton will next compete in the Warrior fighting championships in Virginia March 3, fighting for the 145-pound title.
