OMAHA, Neb. - Oklahoma University senior Eric Lapotsky became an All-American on Friday night.

Lapotsky, a Mount Carmel High School graduate, lost in the morning session at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships but rebounded in the consolations to earn his place on the podium. The top eight placewinners in each weight class receive All-America honors.

Seeded sixth, Lapotsky began the day with a 9-3 loss to No. 3 Hudson Taylor of Maryland.

With a medal on the line, Lapotsky shut out No. 12 Brent Haynes of Missouri 4-0 behind a first-period takedown and second-period reversal.

Lapotsky (28-7) continued in the wrestlebacks and edged Alan Gelogaev of Oklahoma State 6-5. A takedown and a tilt gave Gelogaev a quick 5-0 lead. Lapotsky answered with a takedown in the second period, then, with Gelogaev tiring, Lapotsky got an escape, a penalty point and a takedown in the third period to win.

Today, Lapotsky will wrestle No. 4 seed Cam Simaz of Cornell in his next consolation bout.
