MONTOURSVILLE - It had been nearly two weeks since Lourdes was last on the court.
The Red Raiders looked little like a team that had that much time off, jumping out to a 19-0 lead over Galeton in their 57-15 District 4 Class A quarterfinal win Thursday at Montoursville.
Lourdes will play the winner of the Benton and East Juniata next week.
Even with the prospect of facing Benton's Justine Seely looming, Galeton had Lourdes' full attention.
"You're always concerned when you have a big layoff, but we were able to scrimmage and get some work in," Lourdes' coach Mike Klembara said.
"Our kids are ready to play and have a challenge ahead of them. We were focused tonight."
Nikki Komara was especially focused and had everyone else's attention. The Red Raiders' senior scored six points, but more importantly had 11 rebounds, 10 assists and half a dozen more steals to rev up Lourdes' engine until Galeton was all but finished.
"My shot wasn't going in, so I figured if I can't score, I know Sara, Rachel and Bailey can all make shots," Komara said. "If I can contribute with an assist or catch a rebound, it's a good game for me."
Komara scored all her points in the first quarter as she slashed through the lane for three baskets. Then it was time to do some dishing.
Of the Red Raiders' 10 second-quarter baskets, Komara had six assists, including several to Rachel Schultz in the transition game.
Schultz wound up with a game-high 22 points, while Sarah Getchey was consistently on-target in the Raiders' half-court sets, hitting five 3-pointers on the way to 17 points.
"We run," Klembara said. "This is a longer floor and that's to our advantage and we hit some early treys."
The Lourdes' defense was as stifling as the offense was efficient.
The Red Raiders forced 14 first-half turnovers and held the Tigers to 0 for 8 shooting in the first quarter.
Galeton scored seven of its 15 points in the fourth quarter, when the game was well in hand for Lourdes.
For the Tigers, it spelled the end of the season. For Lourdes, it was the first step in a bigger goal.
"A five-peat for the District 4 championship would be great, and a good run in the state playoffs if the bracket sets up the way it should," Komara said.
Despite the ease of Thursday's win, this may be the toughest year yet for the Red Raiders.
