Indians record 2 victories
COAL TOWNSHIP - Olivia Bonshock had 17 kills, and Stef Hile had eight kills and five aces to lead Shamokin Area to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-11) sweep of Mahanoy Area in scholastic volleyball Wednesday, raising Shamokin's record to 14-1.
Helana Supsic added 17 digs and Ashley Huxta had 27 assists.
On Tuesday, the Indians took a 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 27-25) win at Millersburg. Bonshock had 20 kills and Cheyenne Popewczak had 10 kills and seven aces. Supsic had 14 digs and Brie Bonshock had a fine all-around game.
Cross country Stoner sets record
TUSCARORA - Pottsville's Paige Stoner set a course record of 17:53 to win the Schuylkill League girls cross country championship Wednesday at Tuscarora State Park, and Blue Mountain topped Pottsville, 33-54, for the team title.
Jim Thorpe won the boyts title with 58 points, with Pottsville second. The Olympians' Jonathan Condly was the individual winner in 16:44.
Chris McCormick (8th, 17:45) and George Anthony (11th, 18:01) finished in the top 25 for North Schuylkill's boys, who were fourth in the team standings.
Jess Yeneskie (19th, 21:55) and Maura Gownley (21st, 22:01) finished in the top 25 for North Schuylkill's girls, who finished sixth as a team.
