Shamokin Area's Brent Forbes and Tara Sabotchick, and Southern Columbia's Kurt Kessler have been named to Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference first teams in basketball in voting by conference coaches, and Shamokin girls coach Bill Callahan was named Division I Coach of the Year.

Forbes was named to the Division I boys first team, and Kessler to the boys Division II first team. Sabotchick was named to the Division I girls first team.

Forbes averaged 15.9 points per game for the Indians and was their leading rebounder. Kessler averaged 13.2 points per game for the Tigers.

Sabotchick paced Shamokin's girls in scoring with a 16.1 average.

Area players who earned second team honors were Mike Domaleski and Seth Scicchitano, Mount Carmel, Division II boys; Summer Reigle, Shamokin, Division I girls; and Cynthia Adams and Ali Oley, Southern Columbia; and Ranotta Ahrensfield, Mount Carmel, all Division II girls.

Callahan led Shamokin Area to a 19-7 record and a District Four AAA runner-up spot.
