KULPMONT - Mount Carmel Area dropped a 7-1 Heartland II baseball decision to Central Columbia Saturday afternoon.

The loss, the Red Tornadoes 11th against four victories, officially eliminates them from the race for a District 4 Class AA playoff berth.

Zach Kozlowski and Zach Wasilewski had a double each for the Red Tornadoes, who stranded 10 runners on base.

Cody Bowman belted a home run and single to lead the Blue Jays. He also struck out nine in earning the victory.

HUGHESVILLE - The Red Tornadoes stranded 16 runners on base in the Heartland II setback to the Spartans.

Tyler Thompson belted a double and two singles to lead the Mount Carmel offense. Colin Bettleyon added two singles.

Jake Jones suffered the defeat.

ALTOONA - Shamokin area's Chris Petraskie cleared the bar at 6-feet, placing first in the high jump competition in the Class AAA division at the 65th annual West Central Coaches Invitational track and field meet Friday at Altoona's Mansion Park Stadium.

Petraskie was Shamokin's only first-place finisher, although several other Indians placed well.

Among the girls, Lea Richardson placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 107-8, while teammate Stef Hile was sixth in the discus with a throw of 98-8. Sofia Pearson was fourth in the long jump, leaping 16-6¾.

The 400-meter relay team of Sofia Pearson, Gabby Lahr, Mackenzie Koharski, Danielle Reed placed sixth with a time of 53.53.

Other Shamokin boys who placed highly were Dante Picarelli, seventh in the 300 hurdles in 44.34, and Alek Bonshock, eighth in the javelin with a throw of 152-11.
