COAL TOWNSHIP - If someone had told Lourdes Regional coach Pete Long his team would be 4-2 at Christmas break, he'd have taken it in a heartbeat.

They are and he has.

But he's still a coach, and he wasn't altogether pleased with the Red Raiders' 43-27 win over Line Mountain in the Knights of Columbus semifinals Friday.

"A win is a win, but we didn't get any better tonight," Long said. "We're getting sloppy and we'd better get better, because we have a stretch of games coming up when we're going to have to be."

That stretch starts tonight, when the Red Raiders play unbeaten Shamokin, a 58-47 winner over Minersville in the other semifinal.

"I wanted to get up and down the floor and play that way a little tonight against Line Mountain," Long said. "I thought we could against them and we're going to have to or we'll look bad."

Line Mountain (0-8) did a good job of running its offense, but the Eagles just don't shoot very well.

"We can't shoot," said Line Mountain coach Craig Reichard. "It's been that way all season. The kids find a way to get the ball in and get their looks, but they can't make them. We're young and inexperienced. We don't have a senior, so it's frustrating."

Lourdes looked like it was going to pull away after a strong second quarter, ended by Jordan Fobia's three-point shot at the buzzer, for a 25-13 halftime lead and they built it to 34-20 at the end of the third quarter despite some sloppy play, which included letting the Eagles into the bonus in fouls fairly early, and turning the ball over.

But Line Mountain 10 for 46 (22 percent) from the field, and only 6 for 19 (32 percent) from the foul line.

"Absolutely, if they make a basket here and there, they had us in trouble," Long said.

Lourdes got solid performances from its inside players, freshmen Coby Feese and Larry Czeponis. Each had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Czeponis chipped in with three assists as well.

"We've been relying on Larry a lot," Long said. "I thought both of the big guys played well."

Elijah Zablosky paced Line Mountain with nine points and 13 rebounds.

In Shamokin's win, Austin Stine made 10 of 13 free throws and led the Indians with 19 points as the Indians had to hold off the Miners down the stretch.

Ryan Sebasovich added 18 points for Shamokin.

Minersville had a trio of players in double digit scoring, led by Tobin Spencer with 13. Collin Hashin and Bethea Shameik had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
