LANCASTER - Kellen Masser had three hits, scored two runs and drove in three, to lead the Eagles (2-1, 2-1) to a Tri-Valley League win over Lancaster Country Day.

J.P. Lenker and Jeremy Renn each had two hits for the Eagles. Cory Warford worked five innings to earn the win.

Tom Harrington, the losing pitcher, had a home run and double, and drove in three runs for Lancaster Country Day.

Track and field

Shearn doubles at Tamaqua

TAMAQUA - North Schuylkill's Brendan Shearn won the 1600 and 3200-meter runs, and area athletes won nine other events Friday at the third annual Tamaqua Invitational Meet.

Shearn, defending PIAA Class AA state champ in the 3200, won that event with a blistering time of 9 minutes, 30 seconds. He won the 1600 in 4:32.5.

Shamokin's Matt Gass and Mount Carmel's Ali Varano each won an indivdual event and helped relay teams to wins as well. Gass won the 800 (2:01.8) and teamed with Dan Delbaugh, Zach Santey and Chris Petraskie to win the 3200-meter relay in 8:29.0. Varano won the 400 (1:01.6) and teamed with Lauren Hause, Cathy Fletcher and Jen Bolick to win the girls 3200 relay in 10:38.7.

Other boys winners included Mount Carmel's Eric Joraskie in the discus (148-1) and Rob Varano in the pole vault (12-6), and North Schuylkill's Daniel McSurdy in the 100 (11.0). Mount Carmel and North Schuylkill tied for second place in the team standings with 76 points, behind winner Blue Mountain.

Other girls winners included North Schuylkill's Carter Green in the discus (a meet record 137 feet, 4 inches) and Carly Gregas in the high jump (5-2).
