Sgt. Eric J. Gardner is returning to the U.S.

Army National Guard Sgt. Eric J. Gardner is returning to the U.S. after a deployment to Iraqi or Afghanistan in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom, respectively.

The soldiers return to Fort Dix, N.J. for debriefing, evaluations and out-processing procedures before returning to their regularly assigned Reserve or National Guard units.

Gardner, a fire support specialist, is a member of the 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry Regiment, West Chester. He has served in the military for seven years.

He is the son of William D. and Debra Gardner of Catawissa Ave., Sunbury.

The sergeant graduated in 1994 from Shikellamy High School, Sunbury, and received a bachelor's degree in 1999 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana.
