Route 61 in Stonington open to traffic
STONINGTON – Northumberland County 911 reported at 5:39 p.m. Thursday that Route 61 reopened in both directions after more than 10 ½ hours of being closed.
Winds gusting between 40 and 50 mph are being blamed for knocking down a large tree and utility pole, which fell across Route 61 at approximately 7 a.m. Thursday near Stonington Fire Company.
A detour was in place at Captain Bloom and Anthracite roads in Shamokin Township. The 911 center said the stretch of highway effected was from the Stonington State Police barracks to Northumberland Memorial Park Cemetery.
