Welcoming foreclosure for Red Gold
To the editor: I live in Center City Apartments. I have stood by my convictions of the Red Gold and housing authority dispute from the beginning.
In the beginning, which was in September 2009, when it was made public that Red Gold Enterprises (Gene Picarella) was in arrears in property taxes and mortgage payments and that the building was going to be sold by judicial sale, a lot of tenants were worried about where they would live. Then when the housing authority got involved, these same tenants had questions. They either went directly to the authority or came and asked me to get the answers. I had - and still don't have - any problems with that.
Later, after Red Gold paid its taxes, Picarella and Susie Good had a meeting in the lobby of the building with the tenants. When I got off the elevator, I was pushed to the front. Why? Because these tenants used my voice to voice their concerns and get answers and ask their questions.
A few of these same tenants now are videotaping me and telling me that I am going to be sorry. I want these tenants to know that I have nothing to be sorry for, and I will continue to stand by my convictions. Any other John and Jane Doe's property would have been foreclosed for non-payment of their mortgage. I have nothing to do with the mortgage and am very thankful for that. But, as usual, you can baffle some of the people, but not all of the people. And I for one will not be baffled or bullied.
Do these tenants live with mold in their kitchen ceiling? Was their heat turned off? No, it wasn't! Well, I live with mold in my kitchen ceiling and my heat was turned off. And I was videotaped emptying a storage cage. And later that day I was told I am going to be sorry.
On another note, we are being told that those who pay our rents to the authority are receiving our utilities for free. No, our rent is paid, just like yours. If not, we would be evicted for non-payment.
I was served three different times with an eviction notice. But my rent is paid, and each notice was thrown out.
So, yes, I personally look forward to a foreclosure and eviction of Red Gold Enterprises. Will we be videotaping that situation? I certainly hope so. And will I be sorry? I don't think so. I have a clean conscience and sleep well at night.
