To the editor: Voting is a right and privilege that many people in the world do not enjoy. There are individuals who are willing to fight for the opportunity to elect government officials. Our forefathers fought for this right as have other groups such as women and minorities.

Taking part in an election demonstrates gratitude to those who struggled to give us this right.

Many people think by not voting they are making a statement, but all they are really doing is taking themselves out of the democratic process.

Inaction is not a statement! If you don't have the motivation to vote that's fine; however, being vocal about your inactivity displays your personal ignorance and stupidity regarding how fortunate Americans are to participate in the election process.
