To the editor: Bob Sandri, of Shamokin, put my address in the local paper. By doing so, I recieved a lot of Christmas cards over the holidays, and it helped keep my spirts up.
I would like you to place a response in the paper on my behalf thanking the wonderful people who sent the cards. I want them to know that I really do appreciate what they did.

My own greatest teachers were my Mom and Dad. Dad left school to work in the mines to help my elderly great aunts, and later to provide for his children. He proudly defended freedom in World War Two. My Mom lost her Mother when she was only twelve. She raised her three brothers.
Both of my parents embodied everything that is good in humanity. I believe most of the people born and raised in the coal regions have had the same qualities.
I'm writing to say how grateful I am to my parents, aunts, uncles and the neighbors who blessed our lives.
I am sixty one now, so I don't know if there is anyone who would remember our family. That's not really too important to me. What is important is that I remember all of them and have carried their spirits in my soul all of my life.
To the children who live there now, know that you are blessed. Your heritage is strong and you can make your future bright. I wish all of you lives full of the pride and joy I have experienced.
God bless you all!
