Salvation Army looks for holiday help

Font size: [A] [A] [A]

Dear friends: Once again in 2008, more than 1,000 children were able to awaken Christmas morning marveling at the gifts of toys and clothing under their trees. For many of these children, this thrill was only possible because of all the generous supporters of Our Angel Tree and Adopt-A-Family programs, and the generous donations given through our red kettle promotion.

With the state of the economy this year, we anticipate the need for help during the holidays to be greater than ever. As we reach out to lessen the burden of others this Christmas season, we would ask for your continuing support, or even supporting for the first time, the Salvation Army's Christmas outreach programs. Groups or organizations can assign angle tags for individual children or groups by calling us or through the "Angel Tree" at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Coal Township.

There is also the opportunity to sponsor a needy family through our Adopt-A-Family program, or collect toys, food or hats and mittens. Your group or organization may also like to challenge another group ringing the bell at our Wal-Mart kettle stand.

As we try to reach as many as there are in need, the work for the Salvation Army this Christmas season is now beginning. At this time, when President Obama is encouraging volunteerism, the Salvation Army would be grateful for your support.

For more information or to volunteer, contact me at 644-0486.

Christmas blessing,

Envoy Tina Streck

Commanding officer (pastor)
