Recognizing respiratory care professionals

To the editor: Each year during National Respiratory Care Week (Oct. 25-31), we pay tribute to respiratory care professionals who are committed to helping patients breathe easier.

Respiratory care professionals assist physicians in diagnosis, treatment and management of respiratory diseases. At Geisinger Medical Center, these individuals provide around-the-clock care for patients with a wide range of pulmonary disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis, by using sophisticated devices that administer oxygen or assist in breathing, mechanical ventilation for patients who can not breathe on their own, medication administration and cardiopulmonary care.

While we take just one week to highlight their care and service, their dedication is constant. At Geisinger, we take pride in the care and collaboration demonstrated by our physicians and respiratory care professionals. This partnership is crucial to the health of the men, women and children of central and northeastern Pennsylvania, and touches countless lives each and every day.

As we celebrate National Respiratory Care Week, Geisinger salutes the extraordinary compassion, professionalism and expertise of these important members of the patient care team.
