To the editor: I am writing to address the issue of the salary cuts for elected officials as proposed recently by the Northumberland County commissioners.

It seems to me that our commissioners are diligent about saving taxpayers money, and rightly so. Yet, it also seems to me that whenever the "hearts and souls" of our elected officials (human beings) are involved, in that these cuts as made to their salaries might jeopardize the well-being of their families - a sentiment expressed by at least one of the row officers involved, Sheriff Chad A. Reiner - then I suggest that the issue be voted on by the people of Northumberland County on a referendum.
