Dogs shouldn't be licking children's faces

To the editor: I was appalled at the picture of the dog and the little girl on the front page of The News-Item on June 24. The dog has his tongue in the girl's mouth and is also slobbering on her face and mouth.

I have owned hunting dogs and have been around many more dogs. They are filthy animals and have no place with children except under strict supervision.

I have seen, while out hunting, dogs eating the human excrement of their owners, and of any others they run across. They also eat and roll in horse manure and never pass up a chance to sniff and lick another dog's anus.

So why is swapping spit and slobber with a dog a mission for your newspaper to champion? This is a filthy habit. The children deserve better.

Whatever happened to common sense?

Hay Mr. Hill, Get a grip there ho - butt. I believe you are of the people in this area that can't see others having fun. A dogs love when no human contact is around can be mind saving. They are always happy to see you no matter what.... And as for the dogs licking there, ah ummm backside. Are you jealous....

Well Mr Hill sure has a poor outlook Dogs are the the gift of God to all of us they are not disgusting as you say.A Dog is the one thing on this earth which will return all the love you give him and still show his love if you mistreat him.I hope someday you have the extreme good fortune to have a dog love you.

What is more disquisting and i am sorry if some people get offended, but, look at some of the people walking around everywhere that don't have any manners and bark louder than animals....get a grip..i would rather a dog kiss me than a person who don't take care of themselves.....get a life....

mr hill, seriously dude. dogs have been licking kids faces ever since kids were given faces. i've never seen a line of kids at the emergency room suffering from dog licking accidents or dog licking disease but i have seen thousands of kids giggling and having fun with their dog while it was trying to get another lick. read the last line of your letter.

Um. Why are their owners depositing their excrement in the woods to begin with? Gross. The picture was light-hearted and endearing. Stop complaining. Also, bacteria in a dog's mouth is species specific so there is little chance on transmitting anything to a human. You have a better chance picking something up from the drunken mess you meet at the hosie on a Saturday night. My goodness people will find any reason to complain around here.
