To the editor: Today, I opened my mailbox and was totally appalled. I received a giant post card from Congressman Chris Carney that had the picture of a crying senior citizen on the front and on the back a vicious attack against his opponent, Tom Marino. It read, "Tom Marino will end Social Security." I listened to the WKOK radio interview Carney referenced, and this is not true.

I have never met Tom Marino. Mr. Marino is a first-time candidate for Congress. During this radio interview, he expressed his concerns about the future of Social Security. Of course, he is not the consummate politician that Chris Carney is, but I detected his true, heartfelt concerns. Our Social Security fund is going bankrupt, the unfunded liability is more than $80 trillion, and if something isn't done, my grandkids and their kids will have nothing to supplement their retirement incomes.

What has Carney done to help seniors and social security? Carney has supported the Pelosi and Obama wild Washington spending sprees most of the time. Instead of helping Social Security, he wasted more than $ 800 billion in his support of Obama's failed stimulus package, which has done very little to help create jobs.

Where was Carney when Obamacare robbed more than $800 billion from Medicare and used seniors' money to help pay for illegal abortions and illegal aliens' health care? Is this fair to seniors, and shouldn't this money have been used to help pay for Medicare's unfunded liability instead? After all, it's seniors' money, isn't it?

Carney's distortion of the truth is an act that disgraces his entire congressional district. His vicious use of fear tactics directed at seniors is unprecedented, unprofessional and, in my opinion, an act of desperation. We have received a ton of mail from Carney in the past few months, which is nothing more than political propaganda resulting in a further waste of taxpayer dollars.

My wife and I are very concerned, not only for the future of Social Security but also for the future of our great nation. Chris Carney is doing nothing to alleviate our concerns. Washington is broke, not only money broke, but also system broke, and Carney definitely is not the person to help solve the problems.

Sincerely,

Ronald E.Schreffler Sr.
