Butler Twp. zoning issue clarified
To the editor: I'm writing in reply to the person from Fountain Springs who commented in the Republican Herald about their understanding based on the last Butler Township meeting that you need to call Mr. Kessler to obtain a permit because " ... Butler Township hired a private zoning company." To set the record straight for those who did not attend the meeting, our engineering firm's representative has assumed the responsibility for all zoning functions (at no additional compensation).
In addition to a qualified, experienced person issuing building permits and zoning applications, we will also have an alternate engineering firm as well as a zoning and code enforcement person available who will be called upon in the event of any conflict of interest that may occur whereby an unbiased decision can be made on behalf of all Butler Township residents.
Both individuals currently provide these services for other municipalities in our county. These professional services will not result in taxes going up as presumed in the article, but will in fact generate more money directly to the township than in previous years.
Applications for permits are still available the same way, either by stopping by the township office or calling 875-4137. However, the hours for permits and zoning issues are extended from 10 hours a week to 40 hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Additionally, if applications are in compliance, permits are usually completed and returned within seven days after the requests are filed. Should complaints or other issues involving zoning violations occur, inspections of those claims/sites can be done on a daily basis.
Residents of Butler Township can be assured that the proper procedures and compliance will be followed by qualified professionals who are capable of interpreting current codes, guidelines and requirements.
