Barletta, Marino fail the people
To the editor: The GOP in the U.S. House of Representatives has single-handedly created a manmade disaster by shutting down the government.
U.S. Reps. Tom Marino and Lou Barletta put their party over the people. More than 800,000 American workers who help keep the U.S. safe and perform important duties will be held without pay while Marino and Barletta will still be getting a weekly paycheck of more than $3,300 in taxpayer money.
Marino and Barletta are trying to prevent 48 million uninsured Americans from obtaining health insurance and at the same time they have the "gold standard" health insurance paid for by the taxpayer.
Extremists from the tea party are claiming the Affordable Care Act, or what Fox News and the Wall Street Journal call "Obamacare," is a job-killing law. The only cases of jobs being affected is that people will no longer need to have two or three jobs to afford health insurance. Also baby boomers who have pre-existing health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes or cancer, will be able to retire and obtain health insurance without any discrimination or denial because of their pre-existing conditions, thanks to the Affordable Care Act.
It's no wonder that Marino and Barletta's approval rating is so low.
These two are hurting our way of life. They have proven that they only represent special interests and their party leaders in Washington. They have proven that they don't represent the people.
