Cold ones
As for "Backbone," you are absolutely wrong that my comments supporting the LCB and the current system in PA are made by a union employee. I am aware that Pennsylvania is the only state with this system. I am a college-educated, retired business executive, worked for a worldwide company, traveled to or had businesses in 40 of the states, who enjoys a good Manhattan and a few cold beers - especially with Maryland hard-shell crabs!
Untouchable
I'm sorry, but I've been working a lot, and I'm not up to date. But am I to understand our U.S. government is going to mandate cuts on out military, education and border patrols - but welfare is untouched?
Get a job
To those worried about having their unemployment reduced, get a job. They are only cutting it for those on unemployment compensation for more then 31 months. You've turned it into a way of life instead of assistance during the rough patch. In Elysburg, there are factories asking their employees to send people down; they need help. At Highridge Park, 20 minutes away, there is Sara Lee, Gordon's, Wegman's, Lowe's, Wal-mart - all are hiring. Quit crying about jobs; they are there. Not being able to pass a drug test doesn't mean you should stay in the system.
Love of country
An increasing number of people are expressing their disgust and disillusionment with the government. They neither trust nor respect our political leaders because they have done nothing to earn either. The country has done nothing wrong. I love my country; it's the government, both political parties, that is the unmitigated, absolute disgrace!
Rubber necks
This is for all the onlookers who were at the fire in Mount Carmel on Saturday afternoon: How dare you walk by and say, "Oh, it's no big deal. It is only a chimney." That is somebody's house. They have small children. What is the matter with you? Next time it might be your house, but hopefully not.
Still at Mutts
I am calling in reference to the Sound Off inquiring about Harper because they would like to give her a good home. Harper remains at Mostly Mutts.
Travel log
It is always interesting to read the statements of those who want no government in their own lives. That is, of course, until chemicals and feces is contaminating their water supplies, air is unbreathable, roads and bridges are decayed and there are no standards for health care, pharmaceuticals, weights and measures, fairness in banking and courts, etc. These complainers should travel a bit in order to appreciate the government we have.
Only two
This is to the caller who asked how many other states have a liquor control board controlling the liquor business. There are only two states out of 50 that are in the liquor business: Utah and Pennsylvania.
Infighting fun
The prediction of a robust recovery is stymied because of an incompetent Congress. While the Republicans are busy fighting with each other, the economy sputters. The Tea Party came to Washington to say "no," and that is not governance.
State stores
This is for the caller who is opposed to state-controlled liquor stores. He feels that if you are in favor of the state you must give your name and union affiliation, but I did not see him submit his name. I am in favor of state control, and I am not a union member.
Times of trouble
If anybody has a chance, I would definitely recommend going see the Shroud of Turin exhibit in Shenandoah. It is a good thing to see in these times when people are losing their faith.
