Sound Off: Saturday, October 19, 2013
The American Congress has become the laughing stock of the world.
I would like to leave a message in Sound Off. How do you go about doing that? Frog's take: You just did, kind sir.
True American hate
I am totally convinced at this point that the Republicans in Washington hate their president more than they love their country and the American people.
I am calling in regards to the Sound Off about the drunk fest on Saturday. First of all, it was not a drunk fest, it was a wine festival with 12 vendors of different wineries. There were more than 1,500 people there. There were no fights. There was no rowdiness. It was very nice. I think a lot of people enjoyed sampling wine from different wineries, and it was put on very well. It was a classy event. It was not a drunk fest.
The government shutdown was nothing but a temper tantrum. John Boehner said, "We fought the good fight, we just didn't win." Government is supposed to work together not spar for first place. Shame on you guys. You shouldn't represent the country. You couldn't run a daycare!
I have personally met every Mount Carmel Area School Board member except for Dr. Kraynak. They are very committed to the students and the community. But what we have is a district where there has been a brain drain over five decades; the demographic has changed, and there is a general lack of parental responsibility for discipline. It is time for tough love for the students and the teachers.
Boot the bozos
To the bozos who blame Obama for closing down the government, get educated. Congress is the body required by law to pass a budget annually and to submit it for signing by the president. The Senate passed a budget and sent it to the House of Representatives; they never took a vote, thus nothing for Obama to sign.
Show me the money
I thought these signs out on the highway has to say who is paying for them. I am looking at some of these signs and they don't say who is paying for them. I just wonder where the money is coming from. It would be nice to know.
I never realized they got a football stadium at Den-Mar gardens with all the bright lights down at the sewage treatment plant. I wish somebody would turn the lights off before they leave. For the past couple of weeks, they have been leaving the lights on at night and costing us taxpayers money to keep them on. Remember, when you leave the job, turn the lights off.
Oscar the grouch
Beware, Den-Mar Gardens residents. Someone is stealing garbage money. For the person stealing it, you are very rude. Do the right thing and bring it back. Frog's take: That's more than rude.
Raise it up
If you want better test scores in Mount Carmel Area, you need to raise the starting salary. It is that simple.
I am so happy that the president, Senate, unions and Democratic corporate donors won't experience the medical and doctor shortages coming to a theater near you.
Peeled and piled
Vinny Clausi has been trimming and cutting jobs, but he is sure creating a lot of costs with these lawsuits.
Got to go
I just want to say that I am so ashamed of our city councilmen. They have allowed Steve Bartos to yell and scream at our public meetings, and now to call Garth Hall a liar. He is an embarrassment to our city and our mayor and city council allows it. Mr. Hall has done nothing but good for Shamokin.
Debris pile blues
I would like to know when Mr. Dubbs is going to serve jail time for not paying his fines. People should stop paying taxes in Kulpmont until something is done. You can't even walk on the sidewalk in front of his property. You have to walk out on the street to get around.
Everybody is worried about the teachers in the Mount Carmel Area School District being underpaid. How about the janitors and the cafeteria ladies being underpaid? Give credit where credit is due. They do all the dirty work.
What kind of police force does Shamokin have that they can't catch these losers throwing garbage in the Salvation Army Dumpsters? In the middle of Independence and Sunbury streets and a football field from the police station.
