All those yesterdays
This is to Ed Griffiths: Ed, congratulations on your retirement. We grew up together and we went to school together. You are a fine police officer, one of the best I have ever seen. You deserve a rest. Enjoy your retirement, my friend.
Tit for tat
Gasoline is quite a bit cheaper in New Jersey, but they pay more taxes a month than I pay in a year.
I see the Republicans in the U.S. Senate have again voted down the Democrats' efforts to raise the minimum wage. The Republicans are against allowing hard-working Americans to earn a living wage, but in the recent budget proposal, they want to give more tax cuts to the rich. The Republicans in Congress and those who support them should be ashamed. No American working 40 hours a week should live in poverty.
Years of enjoyment
Southern Columbia's parents and grandparents did a wonderful job putting together the playground last weekend. They spent all weekend putting it together. The children are going to enjoy it for years and years to come.
The right stuff
Regarding about the AOAA protest (today), county residents will be receiving services when they ride the trails at the AOAA, so they should pay. I agree it should be at a discounted rate, which I believe it is. If the AOAA drastically reduces or totally eliminates the dumping out there, then I feel the county did the right thing.
I am just hoping that Mr. Tobias does a great job and as good as Griffiths did. Griffiths was the best chief of police we've had.
Please do not throw your trash out along the road or out in the streets. Dispose of your trash properly.
Let's not only thank the Indians, let's thank their coach for guiding them to help clean up the area.
Dealing with it
Interestingly, the City of Harrisburg has instituted a housing court just to deal with absent owners and code violators. In order to clean up blighted communities, this may be a model to watch and emulate.
The double standard of state governments who claim to be pro-life while imposing the death penalty should explain their philosophy.
It is the time of year now to clean up, fix up and paint up. Let's get these buildings all in shape in Shamokin.
Cry me a river
Why is that every time I read Sound Off I always see the Republicans crying? There aren't any Democrats crying. I should go downtown and pass out tissues for each one of those Republicans so they have something to wipe their tears with.
You wonder why this town is the way it is. This morning,I was downtown at 8:30 in the morning by the Chinese restaurant and sometime last night a guy must have been walking his big dog and the dog pooped all over the pavement. Now isn't that nice for people to see early in the morning?
Take it away
The Republicans voted down raising the minimum wage. I look at it this way: If they don't want to give you a half-decent salary, come November, you might as well take away their salary. It's as simple as that.
Bring blue back
To the person who took my blue coat out of O.I.P. this evening by mistake, please return it to O.I.P. in Shamokin. I really need that coat back. It was a gift.
