I hope The News-Item shows a little more professionalism that other newspaper did when they published the names and addresses of legal gun owners. Legal gun owners are not the problem in this country. It's the criminals. I hope The News-Item doesn't perform the same stunt locally and put people's lives at risk who work at the prison and other places of law enforcement where it is necessary to have a gun.

Hats off to our Coal Township Street Department and the fine job they did after Wednesday's storm. They are the best.
Shovel, not plow
If Kulpmont Borough wanted to do something for the people, instead of two guys driving around in a truck plowing roads that don't need to be plowed, why don't they shovel old people's pavements for them? Do something good. Frog's take: I'm sure if there was no plowing done after the recent storm, the "two guys" would have been roundly criticized.
I'd like to know when the code officer is going to make his rounds for people who are not cleaning their pavements in Atlas. How about getting these pavements cleaned? Either fine them or warn them. Every year we put up with this. We have these laws; it would be nice if they would enforce them.
This is going out for the Shamokin Area School Board and hiring the new football coach. It doesn't matter who they hire. We will have a new football coach and the same six assistant coaches. We will have the same product on the field that we had for the last 20 years.
Israel has armed teachers, and it works for them.
Since Australia has a gun ban, armed robberies are up 69 percent. Assaults with guns are up 28 percent. Gun murders are up 19 percent.
This call is for "Who you are." Are you bragging? You hit the nail on the head, and I am glad you are the one who brought it to everyone's attention. I always assumed the commissioners were supposed to be there for their community. Stupid me. Oh well, it is what it is. Have a great holiday and a happy new year.
I just got finished reading Jenna Wasakoski's column in Thursday's edition. I have to say I was very impressed. She was right-on with her article, and it made a lot of sense. In fact, it brightened my day. I appreciated her article.
Go off the cliff. Let the 2 percent pay their fair share of taxes.
I am calling in response to the call about arming teachers and guards at the school. Do you know what would be a great idea? How about asking some of our veterans coming home who don't have jobs and are having trouble collecting unemployment? If they have children in any school district or college, they would be more than happy to watch over the kids. Plus, it would give them a job.
I think it's a shame that Service Electric is trying to drop WNEP from our channel lineup. All the trashy channels we have to put up with, and the cost is more than $100 a month. I think they'd better get on the stick and keep channels that are beneficial to us. Keep WNEP. A lot of people should call and get involved with this.
