Outrageous
The county is hiring a new detective that retired from the state after 25 years for $31,585 a year. He's probably getting a state pension that's about $45,000 a year, so he's making over $70,000 a year? Why not hire someone who really needs a job and not someone who wants to just pad their retirement funds? So we the taxpayers get to pay for both salaries for this dude. Outrageous.
Go Carmie
A great deal of rancor occurred over the filling of the head coach position at MCAHS, and I feel both Coach DeFrancesco and Coach Chesney got caught up in a bunch of politics. Both are very good people. My message for Sound Off is: To Coach Carmie, welcome home and best of luck.
Great idea
In reference to the Belfanti monument, I think it is a great idea. I really think they should put it up in Natalie after they tear down the Natalie Drive-in sign that is such an eyesore. I think that would be a heck of a place for it.
Past tense
People in the Coal Region are living in the past.
On vacation
I am calling in response to the guy who said that the Mount Carmel police couldn't do anything because the chief was on vacation. I had a similar problem in July, and the police said they couldn't do anything because the chief was on vacation.
Problems
This is in response to the "bad business" in Ranshaw. At least the dogs are not drunk, cursing and threatening their husbands, screaming at their children playing in the street or screaming at their wives. You have enough of your own problems; I think you should mind your own business. Frog's take: How do you know the dogs aren't drunk?
Police politics
There was a picture in the paper of two Shamokin police officer endorsing Chris Carney for Congress. I was under the impression that it was against civil service law for police officers to actively campaign for any given candidates or, in fact, to be involved in a political campaign at all.
Who's the do-gooder?
Let's call a spade a spade here. Habitat for Wildlife is no environmentalist group. It is no do-good community group. They are nothing but a glorified dog club. Frog's take: Wow, I'd like to see you tell that to the guys who worked their butts off up on that mountain to improve things for the community. No one person or group is perfect, but you are definitely misinformed.
More than the economy?
It amazes me that three Mount Carmel directors have been delinquent on their property taxes for 5 years. We've all been affected by the economy, but most of us have managed to pay our taxes. Five years ago the economy wasn't that bad, so what's their excuse for being behind on taxes since 2005?
Shame, shame
How dare those school board members raise taxes when they are not paying their own. Shame, shame.
