Stay single

Beware: Consolidation of local municipalities - that is a very dangerous trend to destroy Pennsylvania.

Down hill

Mount Carmel Township has really gone down hill over the past couple years. There are people partying on porches all hours, neighbors who let their dogs out from sun up to sun down and all the dogs do is bark, and, of course, they don't own their houses or pay taxes. Go figure.

Praise for firefighters

On Thursday morning, Aug. 26, my son's birthday, we were walking near the fire near Spruce and Third streets in Shamokin. I'm telling you, the emergency crews, the firemen, the police, the fire police, they were fast, efficient - amazing. Thank you so much. I better not hear anyone talk against our emergency personnel. They are excellent.

Funding

All of Mr. Deppen's contributions came out of his pocket. Mr. Belfanti's contributions to this area came out of taxpayers' pockets.

It's jealousy

This is in regard to all the comments about the monument for Bob Belfanti. The negative reaction in this area is sad. Jealousy is the biggest factor. Honor a man before death, not after. He had to do something to get voted in as many times as he did. Thank you.

Late-night trespass

Response to "Police Blotter." He was not retrieving his dog. Two male individuals were trespassing with hunting dogs on leashes on my property at 10:40 p.m. The trespassing must stop. Thank you.

Suggestion for Lourdes

I see Lourdes got another donation. That's very good, but they should only have from first to eighth grade at Lourdes. After eighth grade, the kids can go to any high school they want. That's when you really have religious instruction (first through eighth). I think that would save Lourdes, and it makes a lot of sense.

Hallowed ground?

The town park is hallowed ground. It is a tribute to Mr. Joseph Deppen. The park is also a place for the firemen's Picnic in the Park. A monument to Bob Belfanti is too close to hallowed ground; keep politics out of the park. I live close to the park. Frog's take: So which is it, hallowed ground or a carnival ground?

Brown-noser

Mr. Tanney was a brown-noser in Centralia and I see he's still a brown-noser in Mount Carmel. As far as Mr. Belfanti goes, he got paid for what he did.

Blocked alleys

Can anybody in Mount Carmel explain why people are allowed to park in the alleys and block them? Does someone have to die in one of those alleys when an ambulance can't get through? For God's sake already, write a ticket and let people realize they can't park in the alleys and block them.

Treasurer's office

I went to the Northumberland County Treasurer's Office the other day and it was the first time that when the regular girls were off, the treasurer and his deputy were able to help us. You're doing a great job, and I just hope you continue to do that.

Words of wisdom

When a person is right all the time, there's something wrong.

Monument backers

Erection of monuments are normally done with community backing, not unions and wanna-be honorees.

Tired of Ed

I get really tired of Ed Rendell saying about shortages in the budget, and the first thing he wants to do is cut working people. I think if you want to make cuts, let's start working on the legislators and their entourages.
