Open forum

Well, I see now Obama decided to try the 9/11 terrorists in regular criminal court instead of being as war criminals in a military tribunal. This way they get to bash the United States in an open forum and exercise constitutional rights that they don't even have. Anybody who votes for this guy again has to be on drugs.

Missing school

Of all the parochial schools that were mentioned that went to Our Lady of Lourdes, there was one that wasn't, and that was Saint Anthony's of Patawa from Ranshaw. We had graduates from there. In fact, I was one from the class of 1964.

'Two' many

Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton. Frog's take: One of each is more than enough.

Industrial thinking

Frog, if they really want to stop all this drug abuse in the area, why don't they open up some of these buildings like Kmart and those buildings in Paxinos that have been closed for years and put some industry in the area? You won't have a 10th of all this drug use and you wouldn't need half of the jails. Frog's take: If it were only that easy.

Beer leg?

Hey Frog, in today's paper in the history section above the looking back photo there is an article and it makes reference to a "beer leg." What is a beer leg? Was that a misprint or is there really such a thing as a beer leg. Frog's take: I don't think it was a misprint, but I don't know what a beer leg might be.

Rate hike

PPL's 30 percent increase in billing will not help the average customer. First, there's the matter of understanding their billing system. Second, business people will pass their expense on to the public. Third, unemployed people and people on fixed incomes will have to cut their daily expenses, like medicine and food. Fourth, how are the windmills helping to cut our electrical expense?

No, Pope, no.

This is one person who does not want Bishop Rhoades to leave our diocese, and I would like to tell the Pope "no" for once. I want him to stay. Everything good leaves Pennsylvania. I am disheartened.

Total disgust

Hey, Frog, I am just shaking my head in total disgust that these two women that were fired in Kentucky at the library because they were doing a job that they needed to do. If all your department stores and all your video stores can stop R rated material from getting into (young) people's hands, then a library should be able to do the same thing.

Taking over

I read with interest your article on NBC being taken over by a cable outlet. No wonder; people are sick of this liberal bias that exists in the mainstream media and, for that reason, they are tuning them out. CBS and ABC are going to follow suit if they don't wise up.

Science fiction

McCain's aides are saying that Sarah Plain's book is nothing but fantasy.

Tag day

This is the reason dogs have to have tags and cats don't: It is because they are called "dog tags" not "cat tags."

BY LARRY DEKLINSKI SHAMOKIN - A portion of a vacant commercial building collapsed onto a busy city street late Saturday morning. The collapse occurred around 11:30 a.m. when sheet metal, wood and bricks from 23 S. Market St. fell near the structure on M
