Executive indecision

Frog, when is our president going to make a decision on Afghanistan? Our boys are dying there and they need more help, and they can win this war in no time flat. Just like Bush sent the troops to Iraq and they took over and won the war, now they got to win this war. They can win it. C'mon Barack, make a decision, one way or the other, but make the right decision: Send the troops.

Change the subject

Enough, enough, enough already with the rift between the Republicans and the Democrats! Change the subject. What does everybody think of The Red China policy? I think everybody should have at least one set of Red China! Duh!

Call for patience

To the people who like to pass emergency vehicles that have their lights on and siren going: I hope you can afford the fine if we get your license plate numbers and turn them in. You might need (the emergency responders) sometime, and we can't make it because someone doesn't like to be behind a fire engine or ambulance.

Bus stop danger

I called Sound Off before about the speeders on Captain Bloom Road and haven't seen a police officer yet. Well, this morning a school bus was coming and a truck stopped long enough for my kids to get in the door of the bus, and then completely disregarded the stop sign on the bus and drove right past. To that truck, next time I see you go by, I will have your license plate to the state police. Like I said before, does it take a child to get hurt or killed before the police will listen? This is a heavy traffic road. The tickets would help the state get out of the debt they are in.

Phanatic

I am rooting for the Phillies in the World Series. The Yankees are obscenely overpaid, they are arrogant, and New York was late in its support for American independence. Frog's take: Amen! Go Phillies!

What happened?

I'm trying to figure out what happened to the Shamokin Area School District. Every day my children come home with work that I sit down and go over with them, only to realize that they're not "learning" anything, but being trained to take the PSSA test. I have spoken to other parents and everyone agrees with the point. They bring home library books that are taped together, but we have spent $600,000 of turf on a field.

More increases

The Line Mountain School Board is once again talking about raising taxes, when they just passed a tax increase and have raised our taxes for the past five consecutive years. This school board has taken advantage of taxpayers despite the poor economy, the area's job losses and the housing market debacle, not to mention that PPL users will be seeing a 30-percent increase in rates starting in January. We can't afford to pay more and more for these ridiculous pet projects (e.g., a $200,000 soccer field). Does our school board live in a vacuum or do they just not care about the people in this district? Where is the outrage of my fellow taxpayers? If you do not speak out, they will walk all over you.

Always there

Kemp Memorial has always been the home stadium for Shamokin. Years ago, Kemp was a baseball field associated with Edgewood Park. During the first remodel, the visitor bleachers were given to the Shamokin/Coal Township Little League. Arch Street Stadium was the home field for Coal Township and was closed about 1975 or so. Its light standards and bleachers are now living on at Lourdes field. The original home field for Coal Township was behind the Coal Township High School building, up on the hill. In later years it was a practice field and youth league field, but fell into disuse and Mother Nature reclaimed most of it.

Way too high

Read in the paper that Bass and the secretary got fired and was shocked to see what they were getting paid. Those wages are way to high for the small town of Mount Carmel.

to the person who was shocked to see what Mr Bass was paid I think they forgot to tell you that part of his salary comes from a transit grant also remember they have made this salary for years it is nothing new, these current council members have approved a yearly budget for more than just one year so these salaries are not new there is too much going on behind closed doors do you really think a new administration is going to let us know what is going on I think not
