Cooked books

Mr. Hepler: A fraud is a fraud is a fraud. Whatever you want to call it, you don't do it.

Fire charge

This is in regard to charging by the fire department for coming to put out a fire. I think that is a little ridiculous. If someone has a house fire, don't they realize that they have already lost everything that they own? To send them a bill in their desperate time of need is just a little ridiculous in my opinion. Frog's take: It would likely be tied to insurance, which many property owners have. Plus, there's something to be said for helping the fire companies.

Sour notes

Whoever called in Sound Off and said the Grammys stunk hit the nail on the head. I can't understand people's comprehension of good music. The actions, yelling and screaming is anything but good music. The show was very unprofessional. Dogma police

I agree with Julie Nicolov about the Tebows being allowed to exercise their right to free speech in a Super Bowl advertisement. But somehow I doubt Julie would be as high on her Roe v. Wade soapbox if the advertisement consisted of a female Fortune 500 CEO explaining how the abortion she had when she was 16 gave her the ability to be where she is today. The dogma police have spoken.

God's Grub

Thank you to the First United Methodist Church for providing the free meal for the community every Thursday night at 5. The food was fantastic, and we were able to talk to the other people who came. Good things are happening in Shamokin and the surrounding area. This is a great program you are sponsoring.

It was approved

Mount Carmel Borough Council approves all paying of bills at the beginning of every meeting. They vote to pass every budget. They even have a budget committee all these years. If anything was out of line or in appropriate it should have been caught and corrected by council from the start. So if what Muldowney and Bass have been doing for all these years was incorrect, council voted to approve all of it!

Disaster looms

I wonder what kind of position the seven board members that voted in Carmen DeFrancesco are going to make up to justify paying the guy $60,000 to coach a high school football team. Maybe they should have voted for someone with some education teaching skills and not a guy with no teaching position. Makes you wonder where those seven heads were on Thursday night. It sure wasn't in the best interests of the taxpayers. Time of a revamp of the school board. They will be crying at the Silver Bowl when it's only half full and they lose to Shamokin. This is going to be a disaster. Frog's take: For the record, his vote for the coaching spot was 7-2; the vote for his teaching position was 5-4.

Mount Carmel wasted another $60,000. I sure glad that I do not live there.
