Commissioner puppets
I thought we voted out Vinny's puppet, Phillips, when we replaced him with Shoch and the independent Bridy to be our county commissioners. But they are only following Vinny. I wish they would come up with some ideas on their own.
Tax reform
I would like to hear Rep. Masser comment about propety tax reform in this state and what, if anything, is being talked about in Harrisburg.
Land of taxes
I just read in the paper about Rep. Masser's announcement to run for re-election. He boasts how "taxes have not gone up one penny since I was elected." Great. Maybe the state held the line on taxes, but what about the county tax increase they just approved and the impending crisis looming with the school taxes? Guess this is not our rep's fault. But the governor cuts aid to the schools, and again the property owners will be the ones getting the shaft. It is all just a fancy shell game - cut aid to schools so Corbett says he did not raise taxes, but he did. He just pushed it off on the local school boards to hammer the property owners. Pension costs for schools are going up 3.5 percent, then 4.5 percent in the next two years after that. How much more can we take? When does this nonsense ever end? Never. Pennsylvania is the land of taxes. Why can't we look at how other states fund schools and get away from this archaic way of taxing and funding our school systems?
Why an ADA?
Frog, I am curious as to why the commissioners would eliminate an ADA position when both adult and juvenile probation have more officers than needed. Wake up, commissioners. Instead of getting rid of a much needed ADA, get rid of the excess probation officers who are wasting taxpayer money.
Not so
I am calling about the "Oldest business" call. I'd like to know who called that in because, to the best of my knowledge, there are no bartenders in Shamokin who are selling themselves. Grow up. Get a life.
No coins
The Treasury Department has stopped banks from distributing presidential dollar coins to pass out to average people. I wonder if it would be a different decision if we had a different president in office.
Appreciative
I want to thank The News-Item for that poster of Henry doing that awesome "Hynoski Hop" right over the Dallas player. I love it.
Great for area
In response to the Sound Off call, "Only a game," come on, Hynoski is going to a Super Bowl. That is wonderful. He is a local boy who has made good by his own efforts. He is a bright spot in an area that has been losing ground as far as industry, opportunity and culture are concerned. I am proud of him, and I am so happy that he has made it and put our area on the map for a while.
So there
I am calling to respond to the call, "Oldest business." As far as I know, the person has a job as a bartender. Maybe the person who called should get a job, take their welfare and food stamps and go to a different bar.
Keeping it quiet
If you are proud of what you do, show it off. Don't hide it. How about it, abortionists? If you are ashamed of your work, there must be something wrong. Maybe that's why Hitler kept the Holocaust quiet.
More is better
Don't listen to any of these people who say there's too much about Hynoski. I think it's wonderful. The more you print, the better. I was against him when we played him at the high school, but I am for him 100 percent.
Back and forth
Frog, this debate with the Republicans is getting out of hand. It's stupid, really. All they are doing is bouncing the ball back and forth. Give it a break. Stop going into another debate. They keep attacking one another, and don't say anything about Obama. He's laughing at them. They should start saying what they are going to do.
Deserving
I cannot get enough write-ups about Hyno. Anyone from the coal region deserves every write-up, and more. If other people get where he is going, I wish them the best. Go Giants! I am a Kulpmont old lady.
