Congrats, Henry, and thanks for the memories
It worked out just as New York Giants and Henry Hynoski fans wanted.
A Giants victory over New England in Sunday's Super Bowl marks the culmination of a fantastic story for this historic football franchise - and for one of its rookies.
Hynoski, who was passed over in last spring's NFL draft after injuring his hamstring in the scouting combine in Indianapolis, then picked up on a one-year free agent deal, was able to celebrate Sunday night - in Indianapolis - as a Super Bowl champion after a most memorable first season.
And Elysburg and the greater Brush Valley Region that he calls home are so extremely proud. People young and old over the past few weeks have shown their support with video messages, signs, posters, burgers and bows. Hundreds gathered for Super Bowl parties yesterday, not just to watch the game this time, but to watch Hyno, the "local boy." And while Super Bowl parties are nothing new in a region that eats, drinks and sleeps football, this year's gatherings had a new purpose, a new emotion and a new pride.
As has been well documented in the weeks leading up to Super Bowl XLVI, Hynoski is not only an elite athlete and a talented football player, he's a quality person, too. That made it easy for so many people to show their support.
Any Hynoski and the Giants came through.
While we're hoping Hynoski is back in the Super Bowl next year, success at the pinnacle of sports is fleeting; it may never happen again no matter how long his professional career lasts. But we are grateful for the opportunity to have "shared" this experience with a local hero.
Thanks, Henry, and congratulations!
