Members of the National Honor Society at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School
collected over 725 pairs of eyeglasses during the holiday season as a service project
in conjunction with the Shamokin Area Lions Club. Students placed “Gift of
Sight” collection boxes in local parishes and businesses during the month of
December. The Lions Club will give the donations to groups such as the Northeastern
Eye Bank or Susquehanna Valley Sight Services, where prescriptions are checked
and the eyewear distributed to those in need. Some glasses may be sold for parts
or for glass and metal with proceeds used to provide other services for the visually
impaired.
