Those who live in Snyder, Union, Northumberland and Montour counties who are 8 to 23 years old and would like to join the SUN Area Dairy Princess Promotion team as a miss, maid, ambassador, alternate princess or dairy princess are asked to contact Ashley Wetzel at 570-539-8625.

To qualify, one must have their own dairy animals, be dairy farmers, a daughter or son or related to a dairy farmer, or have grandparents or parents who worked on a dairy farm, work on a dairy farm or just have a interest in dairy.

The princess is required to travel to all the counties at different events and promote the dairy industry during her year. She is also required to present a skit and speech at the SUN Area and State Dairy Princess Pageant and attend a three-day seminar from July 9 to 11 at Elizabethtown College.

The alternate princess is required to present a skit and speech at the SUN Area Dairy Princess Pageant and either attend a seminar with the princess or mini-seminar with the dairy misses, maids and ambassadors.

Dairy misses, maids, ambassadors and alternate princess help the princess at different events and cover for her when she is not available. Boys can also join but can only be ambassadors. Goat people can also join.

SUN Area Ag Dairy Days will be held May 16 to 18 at the Middlecreek Valley Antique Show along Old Colony Road in Selinsgrove right beside the Snyder County Prison. There will be kids games starting at 4 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. At 6:30 p.m. Friday, there will be a celebrity milking contest and at 7 p.m. Saturday is the SUN Area Dairy Princess Pageant. At 1 p.m. Sunday there will be free ice cream sundaes. Parking and administration is free.
