COAL TOWNSHIP - Shamokin Area Elementary School will register children for its K-4 (kindergarten for 4 year olds) program for the 2010-2011 school year.

K-4 is comprised of half-day sessions held in the elementary building, with a cafeteria lunch offering and busing provided for each session. In addition, the district offers a full-day pre-K Counts program if the student is eligible.

These programs have been designed to meet the developmental needs of 4-year-old children.

Registration will be held March 9 and 10 at the elementary school office by appointment only. To be eligible, children must be 4 years old by the first day of school, tentatively slated for Aug. 30. Parents are asked to call the elementary school office at 648-5721 after Monday to make an appointment.

Children must have received the following immunizations: Hepatitis B (three doses), diphtheria/tetanus (four doses with one dose on or after the fourth birthday), polio (three doses), two doses measles, one dose rubella, and two doses of varicella (vaccine or history of disease).

The registration process will take from 10 to 15 minutes. The child does not need to be present.

During registration, appointments for testing to be completed on each child during the week of April 12 will be scheduled.
