MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Area High School Elks awards for the month of September have been announced.

The student of the month is senior Morgan Miriello, a daughter of Joe and Marcy Miriello, of Marion Heights. Miriello is a member of the art club, Spanish club and Peer Mediation and is president of the Interact Club. She likes to spend time with friends, shop and just enjoy life. She plans to attend a four-year college after graduation.

Junior Student of the Month is junior Hannah Fetterolf, a daughter of Ken and Laurie Beth Fetterolf, of Mount Carmel. Fetterolf is a member of the National Honor Society and participates in yearbook, chorus, school musicals and pep club. Fetterolf enjoys playing piano, singing and babysitting. Her future plans are to attend college for a degree in teaching or business.

Teen of the Month is ninth-grade student, Carl Darrup, a son of Jim and Anne Darrup, of Mount Carmel. His activities include marching band, symphonic band, jazz band and pep band. He is a member of the Interact Club and Odyssey of the Mind. He is president of the freshman class and an altar server at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He is a former Elks Student of the Month, Jr. High Pride Award winner, a distinguished honor roll student and was a member of the OM team that placed 2nd at state competition and competed at worlds. Darrup likes to listen to music, read and play the baritone and guitar, and is a huge supporter of the girls' soccer and basketball teams. His future plans are to attend a four-year college.

The Elks Junior Teen of the Month is seventh-grade student Katie Flynn, a daughter of Wendy and Bernie Flynn, of Strong. Flynn likes to play soccer and basketball and enjoys drawing, singing and baking. Her favorite subject is history. When not in school, she likes to listen to music and watch movies. She plans to join the U.S. Navy.
