SHAMOKIN - The Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce's Wellness Expo 2011 is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church hall, 114 N. Second St. The event is free and open to the public.

Sandy Winhofer, chamber director, said the expo offers tidbits of how to enjoy a healthy lifestyle for those of all ages.

"A wide range of information will be available from many of our local businesses who will join together and share their knowledge and expertise," she said.

Twenty-six vendors have signed up as of Friday, with interactive experiences involving family fitness, "Germ City," body mass index checks, adult and child vision screenings, adult immunizations, medication counseling, healthy eating, blood pressure screening and COPD/respiratory assessments.

In addition, there will be information about obesity, nutrition, social services, finances, home health opportunities and affordable housing. There will also be giveaways, Winhofer said

"This is our seventh year for the Wellness Expo," said Kathleen Hoffman, registered nurse and chairwoman of the chamber wellness committee.
